2010 Winter and Spring Scholarship Competitions
This year students across Canada will compete in a music performance and video
showcase. Awards and scholarships will be given to students who show promise
in these areas. If you've got talent, we want to see it! There is nothing like
writing a song, practicing it to near perfection and then letting it fly on stage. We all
want to be SEEN and HEARD but there are so few opportunities that provide
a stage for students to find their voice and then share it. This year, MEI would like to
give students the forum, the stage and the incentive to show the world what they've
got.
Who Can Participate?
Simply put, if you are in high school and you are craving to perform and create - you
can participate.
2. Upload your work using Vimeo and carefully follow the guidelines outlined on the next page.
Guidelines
Guidelines for Be Seen. Be Heard. Music Competition
Film yourself performing an original song, then post your song online using Vimeo and send an email to beseen@meiacademy.com with your name and a link to your post.
Rule: You must be the person who wrote the music and lyrics and you must be the one performing both the instrumental and vocal components of the piece. What is considered vocals is flexible (e.g. spoken word) and what is considered instrumental is flexible (e.g. a beat) however, every applicant's submission must involve both elements of musical performance.
Guidelines for Exploring the Arts: Video Program
Create an original video piece, then post it online to Vimeo and send an email to beseen@meiacademy.com with your name and a link to your post.
Rule: Your work must be original. The video footage or animation you use must be yours. The topic you choose or the style you use is entirely up to you, but your piece must have a narrative - that is, it must tell a story.
Some Suggestions
If your school is brimming with musical talent, why not organize a coffee house where you and your friends can get together and record your submissions at your school together?
This is all about you - we want to see what you've got. Don't be afraid to be creative and think outside the box; however, always make sure your raw talent is what the judges see front and centre.
Keep it simple! We're not looking for musical and video-making geniuses; what we're looking for is creativity and potential. Have fun with it and enjoy the process of putting together your submission.
Get it together! Deadlines are looming, but that's life! You've got to learn to get things done quickly and perform with short notice. Refer to the scholarship competition dates and deadlines to make sure you get your submission in on time.
