New York, Hong Kong and Other Locations

Learning about the world and how to live in it is the essence of education.

  • The educational odyssey...
The educators at MEI have researched the best interactive teaching locations and methods and have integrated them into the International Business curriculum. Imagine exploring the bustling streets of Manhattan, taking in a show in London's theatre district or discussing world politics in Munich. At MEI, there are no walls, no desks, and no blackboards - just the world.
  • MEI adventure days...
There is no typical day at MEI, and we take great pride in designing each day to be an inspiring and adventurous learning experience. We take advantage of our 12:1 student-to-staff ratio and disperse activities and lessons throughout the day, so that rather than sitting in a lecture hall, the world is our classroom. Students will utilize laptop computers to assist with research, assignments and communication with those at home. All of the courses at MEI are accredited through the Upper Grand District School Board and are recognized by individual school boards throughout Canada and the United States. Students are required to write exams, tests and essays and complete an Independent Study Unit for each course.

Courses

  • International Business and English (or Studies in Literature), Grade 12
The combined Business and English program is designed to give students the ultimate experience in the world of finance. It will lay the foundation that will help to define their understanding of wealth and how financial success is achieved.
  • The intentions of this program are practical in nature; students will discover how the wealthy invest and the strategies they utilize. Students will be learning from professionals with diverse backgrounds: stock brokers working the floor, business owners marketing their product and venture capitalists promoting a dream. The International Business course will provide the focus of our daily agenda and the English course will provide the framework.
  • The integration of English and Business into one cohesive program will complement the elements of each course. Students will read classic literature from William Shakespeare, Og Mandino, George Orwell and Warren Buffet. Biographies will provide clues for students as they explore the personal and professional lives of such business legends as Lee Iaccoca, Donald Trump and Peter Lynch. Students will also be required to develop essays on issues facing the economic policy makers of North America, Europe and the world community. Journal entries, research techniques, presentations and written business proposals will be a major component of each work day, and each night will be filled with the cultural life that Toronto, New York, London, Paris, Strasbourg and Munich offer.
  • Whether or not a student is planning to pursue business at the university level, they will be afforded a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity.
