World Issues—Grade 12
This program provides students with a foundation in the socio-political structure of the region and a more holistic understanding of a rapidly changing Africa within the larger global context. By studying regional literature from a wide variety of sources, students refine their analytical, critical and communication skills, while gaining a broader perspective of the impact of globalization, conflict and developmental sustainability on the continent.
- Program Includes Community Service Project and Volunteer hours
- Students can substitute Studies in Literature—Grade 12
The core English course focuses on the refinement of literacy, communication and analytical skills. Students build on their understanding of academic language and practice using it confidently in discussion and argumentation both in oral and written forms.
The core English course gives students the opportunity to hone their presentation, analytical and critical thinking skills through assignments and activities that incorporate both oral and written communication.

Prep Session 1: Early May, 2017
Preparation and Course Work
In order to ease into the program, students have access to the course website where reading lists will be posted. Course preparation is spread out over four weeks: our first two-week preparation session begins in early May, focusing on course readings; the second two-week session begins in late June, focusing on completing small assignments. These online sessions are designed to connect students with their teachers and classmates, to help complete short tasks, and to alleviate the workload during the summer. Students are required to complete all foundation work prior to leaving to ensure they are ready to hit the ground running while overseas.393f55
Departure From Toronto (Day 1)
Our North American departure hub is Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Five hours prior to our departure, a short meeting will be held at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, Terminal 3, to distribute course packs and maps and to clarify travel procedures. All students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the Sheraton Gateway Hotel. Students making alternate arrangements must contact MEI before November 30.
Toronto (Day 1–3)
We will begin the Golf component of the program by playing some of the premier courses that the GTA has to offer, including Clublink courses Caledon Woods, Glen Cairn, Bond Head, and Rattle Snake. Here we will start focusing on the fundamentals of the game, including technical skills, physical preparation, and mental awareness, all of which are crucial to success on the golf course.
Muskoka (Day 3–11)
Muskoka is a scenic area sprinkled with picturesque villages and towns, farming communities, and lakeside vacation hotels and resorts near to golf courses, country clubs, and marinas. Right in the heart of “Cottage Country”, Clublink courses like Rocky Crest and The Lake Joseph Club have become legendary not only for their immense beauty, but top-rated facilities and playing amenities. Academically we will be focusing on leadership in sports, discussing legendary coaches and figures and their approaches to sports and life.
Mont-Tremblant (Day 11–15)
From Muskoka we will travel to another picturesque location, with a stop in Mont-Tremblant, where students will have the opportunity to play Le Val de Lac and Le Maitre de Mont, two beautiful courses with world-class facilities. Academically, we will focus on creating our own athletic philosophies and ethos, using the knowledge and experience gained throughout our trip to develop a unique approach to golf.
Montreal (Day 15–21)
Long considered a cultural hub of North America, Montreal offers students the opportunity to see another side of Canada—one that immerses itself in music, the arts, and great literature while still offering breathtaking scenery and unique cuisine. Students will balance their time on the course with tours through historical neighbourhoods like the Mile-End, the Plateau, and the Old Port. We will finish off the program with our final tournament at Le Fontainebleau, host of the 2004 Telus Skins Open and 2015 Champions Tour Montreal Open.
